Well, it was actually me who wrote it 😉 Although David Lindo’s Urban Birding was my inspiration …

Ah Uganda…! Paradise on earth, for the birds alone… I’m just from Kibale Forest where I saw seven chimpanzees (in my friend’s garden!) and spent several minutes admiring an irridescent African Emerald Cuckoo. Happy days 🙂

Just now an Eastern grey plantain eater less than 5m away on our railings, and earlier an eagle landing on the roof opposite…no idea what, can’t identify raptors yet. I love the grace of Marabou in flight and the comic old man on stilts with wobbly wattles on the ground. The way the cattle egrets sedately keep abreast of their cow or hitch a free ride, and the gleam of starlings, the red-eyed doves and, up in the golf-links area, several types of hornbill. So regret having to leave behind my Robert’s Bird book, and binoculars broke in transit. Could have done with both on Sunday at Entebbe Botanical gardens…much underrated…a gorgeous walk among amazing trees, with birds and butterflies and insects, and colobus and vervet monkeys. You lucky Ugandans!…take care of them all.

Thanks Simpson – yes it is amazing how birds and wildlife manage to adapt to cities isn’t it?
