Mount Nyiragongo is high on my list – literally! LOL.

Interesting comment re: get the timing right with safety/accessibility. Noted!

Enjoy Aconcagua…. how about Pamir Trail in Himalayas?

Next is Aconcagua in South America. But for sure I will return to climb Margherita again.
Closer to the Rwenzoris, another trek I would highly recommend, is the hike up Mount Nyiragongo in Virunga DRC. A day up, spend the night in the shelters, watching the incredible crater lake and then descend down the next morning. Just need to get the timing right with safety/accessibility. Its definitely “up there” with Rwenzori experience.

Great to read your feedback, Dan.
Although Mt. Kilimanjaro is the best-known of East Africa’s peaks, people who have climbed both often say that Margherita Peak (and the the Rwenzori Mountains generally) is far more interesting than climbing Kili.
Where will you hike next?

Honestly, there’s not much that comes close to the spectacle and beauty of a trek/climb to Margherita Peak. I say this as someone who loves Kilimanjaro….

Did you know… people who have climbed the Rwenzoris, Mount Kilimajaro and Mount Kenya say the Rwenzoris is the most interesting and beautiful climb of the three?

Muhabura (4,127m) is also known as Mount Muhavura. Climbing the distinct cone shape of ‘the Guide,’ as it is known locally, is the most demanding. Although not a ‘technical’ climb, it can nevertheless be tough, sometimes cold and muddy. The round hike takes between eight and 10 hours but the ascent is well worth it, for the dramatic changes in vegetation, a chance to swim in a crater lake and breathtaking views as far north as the Rwenzori Mountains. Dear Trond, apologies for slow reply but I asked my friend your question and am still waiting for this reply. Put it this way, it gets EXCEEDINGLY cold at night on the mountain! Margherita has permanent glaciers. I’m sure if you say that you will be climbing to max altitude of 5,109 metres, you will be given the correct specification sleeping bag.
